Cirigliano Restoration Update

Posted in Members | August 10, 2015

Mark Zilinsky of Naperville, IL sent an update on the Cirigliano project that he is working on:

The pictures are of Walt Bowe's Cirigliano that I've been working on.

The one of it assembled is basically all the parts that were left of the original airplane, the top wing is new and was crafted by Brian Meuser. I've been recreating the rest from a couple picture's Walt sent along with the parts.

The machine work on the OX-5 is complete and it's waiting for final assembly. Brian Stansberry has been working on the cowing and is doing an outstanding job! There are many more detailed pictures on my website See you at Blakesburg.

Windstorm at Antique Airfield, Request for Help Cleaning Up

Posted in News | July 24, 2015

A strong storm blew through Antique Airfield today, and AAA Director Brent Taylor called with an update.

Nobody was hurt and no airplanes were damaged, however trees are down around the airfield and there is damage to the roofing on several buildings. The internet antenna got blown down and lines are down, so currently Antique Airfield HQ is not reachable on email or phone.

If you can spare time on Saturday, Brent is asking for volunteers to come to the field Saturday morning for cleanup and repair, including tree and debris removal and roof repair.

Thank you to any volunteers who can help!

This Island Earth

Prepare to blast off from planet Earth in one of the most popular classic science fiction films of all time! Atomic scientist Dr. Meacham is chosen, along with the gorgeous Dr. Adams, by the inhabitants of the planet Metaluna to do research that will help save their dying planet. However an evil scheme is uncovered by the suspecting Dr. Meacham when he discovers the Metalunan's plan to take over Earth.

As he and Dr. Adams make their escape by flying away in a Stinson 108, their aircraft is drawn up by a bright beam into a flying saucer. Will interstellar negotiation save the day or will the scientists be forced to take part in a treacherous battle to the death? The film was praised by critics for its special effects, well-written script and eye-popping color.

The Crowded Sky

A U.S. Navy jet piloted by Captain Dale Heath runs into trouble as soon as it is in the air. With both his radio and navigation system disabled, Heath has no way of knowing that he is on a collision course with a Douglas DC-7 commercial airliner full of passengers. A tense air traffic controller knows the sky is full of danger as the two aircraft hurtle toward disaster. There are only moments for the controller to find some way to communicate with the jet, and even less time for the pilots to react to the emergency. Film rights to the novel The Crowded Sky - written by a former US Navy flyer - were sold before it was even published.

Great News for Owners of Antique & Classic Aircraft from Butler-Brown Insurance

Posted in News | July 22, 2015

Butler-Brown Insurance announced last week that the hull rates for members of the AAA have been reduced again. This is the 2nd time in 5 years that the rates have decreased. Lisa Alderson, Aviation Manager for Butler-Brown Insurance, explains, “We will base our rates on the experience of the members of the Antique Airplane Association”.

We reduced rates in 2012 and because of the good experience, we have reduced them again effective July 1, 2015. In fact, the rates are about 25% less than they were in 1988. We hope that the members of the Antique Airplane Association will take this opportunity to evaluate the value of their aircraft and be certain that they are insured to value. The program for members of the Antique Airplane Association was established in 1978 and continues to be one of the most successful programs for owners of antique & classic in the industry.

Coverage cannot be bound or changed unless and until confirmed by Butler-Brown Insurance.
