After a gestation period of several years, stalwart antiquer Joe Fichera has his Bird BK flying.
A retired restoration specialist at NASM, Joe is recognized for his expertise in antique airplanes. Over the last several decades besides those airplanes he had a hand in restoring at NASM, he has personally restored and flown such aircraft as a Kinner Sportster, Waco QCF-2, and a Milwaukee Tank powered Bird among many others.
Though he started on the restoration of this Bird, NC727Y, just a few years ago, Joe has owned this particular Bird since 1946. It is reportedly the Bird BK in which Anne Morrow Lindbergh learned to fly in.
The test flight occurred on Sunday July 1st with highly experienced Bird pilot Bob Newhouse doing the honors.
Congratulations to Joe and Anne Fichera for returning another and very historical airplane to flying condition. We can't wait to see the Bird in person.
